Hiking the Virgin River - Zion National Park, Utah

One of the best hikes that I have ever done is hiking up the Virgin River in a slot canyon in Zion National Park. This canyon gets as narrow, in the section I was in, as 20 feet across but is over 1000 feet deep. I started early in the day on the first shuttle bus so I saw no other hikers until I turned around to hike back. You can rent waterproof boots and socks, a dry bag and a hiking stick as you hike much of the time in the river. The canyon is actually deeper than it appears her but the top of the canyon washed out because it is so bright above and so dark below.

I recently visited a tiny version of that canyon in Guatemala. And I’m not saying it was small it’s just that it was smaller than this one :) Great Photo!

If you want a small slot canyon then search for some of my posts on Antelope Canyon.
