After BlogWorld in Las Vegas last week I stayed another day in town and did a side trip to Death Valley which I am told is the largest of the national parks in the lower 48 states. I did not have a chance to see all of the park for that reason but I was still struck both with the barrenness of the landscape and the surprising variety of colors in the rock formations. I liked this photo in particular because of the variety of colors in what is an earth tone landscape. This is part of an area of badlands you drive through as you enter the park through the south from Las Vegas and Parump.

Wow! Amazing picture! I can’t imagine how awesome it will be to see this in person. It’s so bare that it almost looks like it’s covered with snow.

This is a really beautiful picture! I have a particular fondness for Death Valley and think the park is really stunning. I’m glad you had a chance to check it out, even if you weren’t there for long. It is a huge park, and it takes several days to see the main sites.

My husband spent a great deal of his youth traipsing through Death Valley taking photos. We have some really amazing pictures of it, just like yours. Well done!

I was driving back from Vegas and dreaming of a side trip to Death Valley last weekend. I am glad you took it. I am planning on doing so before the end of 2011. It looks so stark and beautiful.

My favorite thing about living in Las Vegas are the opportunities to get out of town — it’s in such a great neighborhood of amazing things to see. Death Valley, particularly in the spring time, is for sure on that list. Thanks for sharing!

This looks like a glacier to me! Great photo. I’m hoping to get a chance to take some more badlands photos next summer.
