Maui – Road to Hana and Lava Tubes – Video Episode 61

categories: USA Travel

Visit Maui with the Amateur Traveler: This video shows the winding road to Hana on the North Eastern shore of Maui with its cliffs, streams, and waterfalls.

In addition, it shows two lava tube experiences. In Wai‘anapanapa State Park just outside of Hana on Maui, you can swim in a lava tube that is now filled with fresh water.

Wai'anapanapa

It is one of the coolest things to do at the little state park with the big name. And coolest can also apply to the temperature of the water which is freshwater and much cooler than the ocean around Maui. The first picture is what it really looks like from within the cave formed from the lava tube as you look back to the cave opening. This second picture is a flash picture of the ceiling of the cave and the many different colors of lava.

At Ka`Eleku Caverns you can hike a quarter of a mile into a lava tube towards the volcano along an interpretive trail. Neither lava tube experience is for those afraid of the dark or claustrophobic.
