Pacific Grove, California – Photo Friday

This photo is not from halfway around the world but instead from one of my favorite corners of the world which is only an hour and change from my own back yard. Many people have heard of Monterey and Carmel, California but the town in between, Pacific Grove, is one of my favorites. My wife and I spent the weekend in the Monterey area and took time for one of our favorite walks along the shore between Lover’s Point and Cannery Row. The bike / walking path was created by tearing up the old Southern Pacific railroad track and runs on past Cannery Row to Fisherman’s wharf and on up the bay to Marina. If you watch carefully you will probably spot sea otters (and not just in the famous Monterey Bay Aquarium) and harbor seals. On the shore side of the path are some of Pacific Grove’s beautiful Victorian homes which have been converted into Inns. We have been known to house shop when we visit the area but so far can’t afford more than a bungalow.

I love the dramatic nature of this photo with the waves crashing. It looks like there might be a storm brewing.

Looks beautiful. Our dream has always been to have a home in northern Michigan on the water–and we’ve done similar “house shopping” when we’ve visited there.

I agree with you. Some of the most beautiful spots on the planet are on and near the Monterey Penninsula.

I think it is kind of cool that the town of Pacific Grove started out as a Methodist church camp in 1875. Apparently that is why a lot of the houses and lots are small.
