Travel to Washington State - A 7-10 day Road Trip through forests, wine country and mountains (podcast)

Hear about travel to the state of Washington as the Amateur Traveler talks to Anne and Mike Howard from HoneyTrek.com about their recent road trip from the ocean to the mountains to the wine region.

Anne says, “We have been nomadic for 6 years now, traveling around the world. When we reached Washington State we said ‘this feels like home’.  We are not from there. But when a place really captures you, that’s how we feel about Washington State.”

“The diversity of people there, the different cultures that live there, the warmth of the people is really amazing,  and then just the diversity of landscapes from rainforest to desert landscapes, to glaciers, volcanos, and then you get into incredible wine country and hidden gem parks.”

We start in Seattle, which we have covered previously on the show and then head to the west to the rain forests of Olympic National Park. Mike and Anne gave us some hiking ideas in the park. They also suggest a visit to Neah Bay on the northwest tip of the state. There you will find sea stacks and spectacular scenery. You will also find the Makah native people. Make a stop at their cultural center.

We then head to the volcanic Mount Rainier which can be seen from Seattle on a clear day. This mountain is often snow-capped all year round. It offers great hikes including a series of trail huts.

We head inland to Washington’s wine country in the hotter drier interior near the Columba River where Anne and Mike stayed in a tiny home in the middle of vineyards.

Let us introduce you to the lesser-known but beautiful North Cascades National Park before wrapping up with tulips and a festival dedicated to the Big Lebowsky.

Join us on a trip through Washington State. Seattle is just the start of a beautiful state.

on Travel to Albania – Episode 575

Hi Chris! I am a huge fan of your podcast and was so excited when I saw your latest episode was about Albania! Although I am not of Albanian descent, many of my friends and coworkers are. I have been planning to visit for about two years now but for whatever reason, it keeps getting pushed back. Thanks to this episode I am keeping it first in line for my next vacation. I have listened to your previous podcast about Albania and loved hearing about what has changed. Thank you for everything you do and keep up the great work!!

on Travel to Uzbekistan – Episode 571

By the way, your interview with Latish on Uzbekistan was terrific – it made me really think about it as a possible travel destination. I turned down an opportunity to present at a conference there in Bukhara in 2008 – I’m sorry that I missed it.

Re: the travel to Washington State episode:
They only toured half the state! The Eastern half has a number of undiscovered gems. The presenters really didn’t know their subject well enough to do justice.

We try and focus on a one week itinerary, can’t do the whole state
